Long Ass Thing About Thanksgiving

Well, another fun day coming to a close. This weekend was really quite fun. Thanksgiving day I had dinner with the whole fam damnily at my brother's in-law's, and there was a shitload of food. I think everyone could of eaten 3 more meals from what was leftover, but damn it was good. No serious confrontations with the sibs or anything, so I guess that's a good thing. I really have a strange family, but I guess I follow suit because I usually avoid all confrontation as well. I suppose things will become resolved sooner or later.

After Thanksgiving and shootin' the shit with everyone, me and my parents spent the night at my sis' house and 8 o'clock the next morning we were on the road to Ohideo. I drove almost half the time that day and pointed out silly things that my mom would say along the trip (too many to count and my brain's turning to mush again so I can't even remember an example at the moment). We drove until 12:30 where we stopped in Greencastle, Indiana (a little west of Indianapolis, go look at a map, cause that's pretty damn far.) Surprisingly I was able to sleep through my dad's horrendous snoring (with the aid of earplugs) until it was time to rise for our final leg of the journey to the "edge of the world".

With only about 4 hours left in the trip we didn't have too bad a day driving Saturday, my dad drove all of that since he knew the state roads MUCH better than I do, I didn't want to get blamed for getting us lost or missing a turn somewhere. "and finally I arrived at the world famous Albuquerque Holiday Inn!" Sorry, a little lapse into Weird Al, and yes, I know I'm a nerd. Well, we did arrive at Mercer County and visited my grandparents grave (and took a pic of their tombstone for my typography assignment, a little morbid, but kind of interesting) and then proceeded over to my maternal grandparents abode. A little sad because my Grandpa is SO skinny, he weighs less than I do (and I think everyone knows that I'm a toothpick) but his spirits seemed to be up and that was comforting. We visited for a while, but we had to get going to make it to my cousin Dennis' wedding (one of the many cousins I don't really know at all, because I live so far away and they are all considerably older than me....kind of like my manfriend). So we went to mass/wedding (most Catholic weddings are done with a mass) and then went to the reception where I took pics (my dad put me in charge cause he takes pretty bad pics for the most part) and visited with my aunts and uncles. It was really quite fun and got to talk to some relatives that I never really knew, kind of cool. (Oh, and to put the cousin thing in perspective, I believe I have about 30 cousins altogether, and if they weren't really close to my own age, I never saw them.) I did get a really cute picture of my mom doing the twist, and it was really funny seeing her try to do the chicken dance and the hokey pokey, ah good times.

That night ended fairly late and it was nice to not have to worry about getting up the next morning too early. (We stayed at my Uncle Allen and Aunt Pepper's house, which happens to be my grandparents old house (and I'm quite certain I've lost everyone at this point)). So the next morning my Uncle Ron and Aunt Connie came over to visit with my dad before they left back to Pennsylvania (ever hear about the bear in the bar in billings?) So...um yeah. Well, later we went to my grandparents where my mom's brother (Ronnie, not to be confused with my dad's brother Ron) and his wife, Cindy and son, Dylan were visiting as well. We watched the Bengals vs. Browns game (the second highest scoring game in football history, not much of a defensive game) and had some lunch. Got some more good visiting done, AND my Grandma gave me scarf that she crochetted, very cool.

Then comes the night where I get no sleep because my dad's snoring like a lumberjack and my earplugs are hurting my ears and since I had to get up at 4 (3 central) in the morning to catch my flight at 6:30 leaving my with only a couple hours sleep. Well, my parents said that Dayton isn't too busy, so our late departure from the house and the hour drive would be okay. So I trust in their greater wisdom, and arrive at the airport with no time to spare and a security check line that was long as hell. I saw the plane I was supposed to be on, but I wasn't on it. So among great frustration and calling back and forth between my parents (who hadn't left Dayton yet) and my manfriend (who was to pick me up at DFW) I finally got onto another flight. By this time it was hopeless for me to arrive early enough to make any of my classes so I just stopped worrying about it. I arrived at DFW at about 2:30 and was exhausted, spent some time with my manfriend, took a 2 hour nap, and then went home to my wonderous dorm at a decent time.

Finally, I arrive at today, where it is freakin' freezing outside. Went to my morning class, I have barely a clue as to what I'm doing in there, stupid class. Then me and my friend, Lisha, went to the cemetary to take pictures of typefaces (really quite interesting) and froze our ASSES OFF! I think I'm getting sick (the lack of sleep and stress yesterday was a downer to my immune system I believe) so I think I'll go to bed shortly. Wish me luck, I only have a couple more weeks of school, I think I'll survive.

I'm a Loser and I Don't Care

Well, I'm a loser sitting in my room the night before Thanksgiving where everyone else is already gone home for the weekend. Campus is so dead, it's very strange, and my manfriend hasn't called me yet tonight, makes me a little sad. I was working on my poster earlier and cussing at my computer because it was doing weird things to my text every time I tried scaling the image down so I could print it on a normal size piece of paper. I spent about 45 minutes trying to figure that out, what a bitch, and I still don't know what's going on. I've given up for the time being.

"and they say Mrs. Clause is on the phone every night with her lawyer negotiatin' the movie rights"

My brain has gone on strike now, and I was hoping to get more work done, but I doubt that'll happen. So I'm going to help my brain rot by listening to Weird Al and maybe get my stuff ready so I can leave with minimal hassle tomorrow, but then I might ignore to that as well. So eh. I don't really care right now, and while I'm kind of concerned tomorrow might end up being very emotionally draining, I'm so tired right now it's hard for me to even care about that.

What the Hell's Wrong With Me?

God I'm such a woman. My emotions right now are beyond all logic and reasoning, too much stuff going on and one distressing thing can throw me completely off kilter. Don't ask me what, because I need to figure out exactly myself.

Well, as I gradually calm myself down, let's recap on what I've done the past few days....HOMEWORK! You got it, gobs and gobs of homework. I have a couple of big projects due very soon, and I really won't be able to work on much of anything this weekend. I feel I did good on my Art History test, so that's something, not a whole lot, but something. I've been working on different things kind of sporadically all day, I've already got my essay done for art history, worked more on the front of my poster, did thumbnails for the back of it, printed out things that I need for my booklet (hopefully I can work on that a bit this weekend), and occassionally worrying on how I can get all these things done and looking good. So before I go on my Thanksgiving "break" I'll be trying to get ahead on some work before I do all of my visiting and traveling this weekend.

So.....since I'll be gone this weekend and very likely won't have a computer handy (which sucks because a lot of the work I'm doing requires a computer AND the programs, which most people don't have anyways even if I do get access to a computer this weekend) I won't be writing in this damn thing all weekend. So ya'll will just have to be satisified with rereading old posts and wait with great anticipation for my next exciting post.

Well, I'm fading fast now and I'm hungry, so I'm gonna get some munchies and head to bed since I only got about 4 hours sleep last night, oh joy. So goodnight all.

Uppers, Downers, Hallucinogens....?

Being a little useless today, a little frustrated, slightly productive. I've been thinking about things that cause me emotional stress today, like siblings who think I'm being manipulated and hate my manfriend's guts and think that my relationship with him is akin to something from Jerry Springer, which REALLY pisses me off. I've had weird sleep lately and I can't seem to focus, procrastination seems to be a constant companion of mine as of late. I'm really frustrated with myself, every time I think I have the strength to stand up for my feelings I begin to cower and fold into myself once the opportunity arises. I've been blamed for some ridiculuous things, and I haven't thought about this for a while, I don't have the energy to worry about all this shit and school at the same time.

DAMNIT! I don't like being depressed or down, I like being my happy-go-lucky self, I like making stupid jokes, and laughing at all sorts of things, I like being funny, and I like not having to worry about shit like this. I know I'm a little vague on what this "shit" is, but you get the idea. I've gotten very tired all of a sudden, and I need to finish writing my essay because I've been putting it off long enough. I figure I'll feel better about myself if I'm more productive than I have been. There isn't too much left in the year, I just need to stop complaining and get everything that needs to be done done. That's the best solution I have...because I'm apparently too young, and too stupid to know what I need to do, to know what my priorities are.

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit, people like me :)

Procrastinator? Why Whatever Do You Mean?

I am becoming increasing lazy as the semester dwindles down, which is very not a good thing. I need to be focused! I need to do my work in a timely manner and not procrastinate! but I just don't wanna. I keep putting off shit and things (like Poster designs, fruit sketches, booklet layouts, museum essays, art history readings (which I NEVER do), and this that and the other). I have just been made aware that I have some sketches due tomorrow morning, so.....I think I'll go get started on that, shouldn't be too hard, or I could talk to my manfriend.....DAMN YOU TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep cutting off my phone calls while my manfriend is driving. (See there's a bit of time lapse in between some of these phrases, I'm attempting to multi-task my distractions.)

Hmmm......I got nothing.....can't think of anything very witty to say (or should I say "Whit-ay!") (then again maybe not). So I guess I'll do something at this fairly late hour after having had wonderfully wasted my evening away. Goodnight all.

Prostitute Squirrels?

Well, I was going to get started on my essay for Art History class, but I don't know what I did with my sketchbook with all my notes from the museum at the moment. I know I have it somewhere, I just don't really want to find it. I think it's in my car, but I just took a shower and it's cold outside and with wet hair I'm not going outside for some time. So my procrastination begins.

Yesterday was cool, my computer class got to meet some artists at the Art Prostitute gallery at their "3's a Crowd" show (www.artprostitute.com) . These guys had some cool shit, all had their own unique styles of art and all were just amazing! I can't believe the stylization and detail that went into some of their pieces. It was fantastic to look at some current artists (a couple of which started out doing graffiti art, and these guys did more than just tagging their name on the side of building, but it's hard to get recognition for "vandalism") it was refreshing since I've been so bogged down with an excess number of thumbnails and other crap for my classes. The show helped me get a little different perspective on the work that I do for class, which is always helpful.

So just a little critique on each of these artists: Bask does street and fine art, all of his supplies are found (even the paint) and he uses corporate logos and figures a lot within his work. He uses these logos to make social commentary on just how recognizable many of these figures are. Every logo in his art is hand painted (and destroyed) by him, it's amazing how meticuluous he'll render some things and then "age" it. www.baskinyourthoughtcrimes.com

Tom Thewes does mostly air brush work with some spray paint as well. Thewes work is influenced by deconstructivism art, abstracting figures with sharp angles, he also uses found objects for stencils in some pieces. Super heroes are depicted in his work (which I find very cool) and done very stylistically. (Sorry I don't have a link for him).

Tes One is the 3rd artist in the crowd. He started off as a graffiti artist and has that influence in his work. Clean lines, bold colors, and exquisite design, with a kind of "techno-organic" theme. http://www.tesone.net/

I know I may sound like a nerd, but looking at all of these guys' work helped revive me in my "artistic vision" yesterday, and sorry for writing the third grade essay up above. Not the most fun reading I'm sure. So back to more stupidity and unart-related things. Recently I have been made aware of Foamy the Squirrel. Demented? Yes. Stupid? Yes. Offensive? Potentially. Vulgar? Most definitely. Funny? If the other categories I have just listed don't bother you then I would have to say yes. To visit Foamy and see for yourself go to www.illwillpress.com . That's some funny, weird shit. Be warned! it is severely demented (almost put severly, please don't chop off a limb or anything).

Alright now....I think I have wasted enough of everyone's time for now, but I shall return! With a bagel.....and some cream cheese.

Monde?

My head hurts and I don't want to do homework. A break would be really nice right now, not like a broken leg or anything, but more like a break of all this stuff I have to do. Also I've heard that our finals week schedule will be changed because of football will actually be nice because I'll get to hang out with my friends because only some of the finals are being moved, but the ones on Thurs and Fri are staying the same. So.....I get to stay here and not go home sooner, but I think that will be fun, cause I'm really not that excited to spend 3 weeks at home, I'd like to have time to do whatever the hell I want to up here, that's what I want. I don't know if there was any cohesion in that explanation, I'm a lot out of it right now. I'm going to go try and do something now. And that's all I have to say about that.

Have Fun With Parantheses, Show Off to Your Friends! You're the Life of the Party Now.

Have I got lots of crap to do! I have 20 revisions to draw, I'm going to the musuem tomorrow, I need to find the rest of my typefaces in magazines, and I need to figure out if I want to change my schedule for next semester, and a million other things as well. Okay, maybe not a MILLION more like 1,999,999. Okay, that was a lame joke, but nevertheless, I've got shit to do. Which could mean I have lots to do or nothing to do, a little confusing that is.

ANYWAYS.......my life is going pretty well despite the ulcer I think I might be giving myself as I start to worry about all these things and now I've found out I'm going to Ohio for Thanksgiving, which is fun, but I'm going to Hickville (actually Coldwater, because I believe there really is a Hickville in Ohio) and I have to take a early morning flight back HERE, but since I'll be in Hickville/Coldwater (if your true Ohioan you don't pronounce the D) /Colwater that early morning will become even earlier with having to drive 2 hours to Dayton. (And I've just realized that was a long ass sentence that makes very little sense) But a vacation will be nice, I'm just having a little whine.

Well, I suppose I should be getting back to doing homework, and I'm actually excited to go to the art museum tomorrow, but that's more because of the company I'll be with. The thought of writing a 3 page essay on some piece of artwork isn't the most thrilling thought in the world to me, but I digress (whatever the hell that means). I apologize for having shitty posts lately, none of them too involved, hopefully I'll procrastinate more and write more crap like this on a regular basis. So.....bye for now, hope to see you again next year, be cool, keep in touch, don't ever change, your the coolest, funniest, smartest, most greatest person ever! (oh....sorry, I'll stop writing things from my "old" yearbooks (see I put "old" in quotes cause I'm really not that old (I've just realized I've put parantheses inside of parantheses, and again just now (this is nuts!))and I like to make jokes about not really being that old even though I'm dating a much older man (who is very cool btw, and I get to go to a museum with him tomorrow!) and stuff like that) because yearbooks are fun and cool and stuff and things......and things and stuff (if anybody has read this far I will be completely amazed, I'm in a rather chatty mood right now and I'm talking to anyone at the moment so I'm making up for it by writing this ridiculuously long blog with absolutely nothing said so far.))

Electoral College?

Okay, I've got a massive headache, but I feel I must recap on my Halloween weekend where I did nothing Halloween related. Friday night nothing, Saturday nothing (well, I did play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic a fair bit), then Sunday work and then a very cool big band concert put together by a very cool guy (who I am closely associated with). Yesterday I didn't do too much, but I'm getting homework again, and today. Today started off pretty good, went to class, voted, took a nap, but then I started feeling like crap and now I still feel like crap, and it's cold and wet outside and I looked homeless in my ugly (but very warm and comfortable) jacket and beenie, and I still have a headache. I think some milk and cookies will help ease my pains, or at least distract me for a bit. So I'll be off now, and no, and I didn't really vote for Pat Buchanan, I just like saying that cause he caused Florida so many problems last presidential election.
