I can't really decide what I want to do for the summer. I went to a meeting about internships and the prof who's in charge of delegating these things saw some of my comments on the VENT forum about my current job and suggested that I might try and intern at an actual design firm because he thought it would be a better learning experience, and I wouldn't just be flying by the seat of my pants trying to figure stuff out.
So I don't know, my original plan was to maybe getting an internship credit for working where I'm at right now, but I'm not sure that the prof would approve because I'm not "designing" really. Though if I kept this job I could take a couple of normal summer school classes so that my last two semesters wouldn't get me too bogged down. My remaining classes have to be "advanced" to fulfill my graduation requirements and quite a few are electives...which is good and bad. The classes tend to be cooler, but it's harder to create a "neat" schedule because there aren't as many options for times or types of classes.
In any case, I'd really like to be able to get two credits done with this summer and a different internship might be cool (it would probably be more interesting then where I'm at now), but I'm sure I'd take a pay cut...it's also taking a bit more of a risk, because after the summer is over I'm out of a job again and would need to start hunting for the next semester. Though I'd also like to take normal art classes over the summer because that would be fun too...and would get me out of the whole "design" slump for a little while.
My original plan sounds easier, but I don't know if that's better. It's hard for me to just go on a whim so much, but I know I don't want to be doing something like my current job forever and I wonder if scouting out another internship will help me find a better job once I'm out of school.
Dude, decisions suck sometimes.

Avian Vet Visit
So, I got to take Boscoe to his first doctor visit since he's been in my care. He hurt his foot yesterday while I was in class and I noticed him limping around in his cage, quite pathetic looking. So today I was able to find an avian vet and find out that he hadn't broken anything, just sprained his ankle basically, and he got a little cortizone shot to help with swelling and now he's already running and climbing about his cage again almost back to normal.
I always hate it when pets get hurt because you can't ask them what hurts, how much it hurts, etc. So I guess it's always good to take extra precaution and I feel much better now after taking him to the vet. I also think he's doing much better after getting that shot then he would have been if I just tried to wait a few days. All is well though now, and the vet visit wasn't too expensive (about 70 bucks) which helps.
I really need to get more homework done, tomorrow I have to be more focused for sure, but hopefully I can get myself to get a little more done tonight. I watched the movie "SE7EN" before, rather disturbing. Glad I watched it on TNT and not a movie channel though, because I'm sure I was spared a few of the extra gory scenes by it being on cable tv. It was a good movie though, and the opening credits from a typographic (aka "nerdy") standpoint were very cool.
I should get back to work, I'm getting too much in the habit of procrastinating and that's not good.

I am NOT a Photographer!
I've just realized how much crap I have to do for Publication Design this weekend, and you know what? that blows. I like having weekends that are actually restful and a little carefree. I DO NOT like weekends where I have to do 72 spread designs (12 sets of 6 pages) AND turn a this mini project that they have us doing which will be 6 full-size tightly rendered spreads due Monday. Good thing I caught up on some rest and relaxation over Spring Break last week.
So I still have some designs to finish up for tomorrow, and I just don't feel like doing them. I was real productive yesterday in getting images set up for the website I'm doing for my Anthropology class. I've decided it's much easier to get motivated to do a project when I don't have to run myself into the ground trying to think up a million different ideas (or draw out 72 spreads).
Yeah, so...Boscoe hasn't tried to court my hand again since the other day, and he's been a lot less demanding than he has been the past few. So that helps, it's much nicer to hear him chirp than to hear him squawk.
Oh yeah, now I'm playing photographer at work which has kind of ticked me off. My boss bought all this camera and lighting equipment, couldn't really figure out how to take good pictures himself, but has figured out that even if he could take good pictures he doesn't have the time for it and I now have to try and take some decent product shots (48 product shots to be exact) and I know very little about advanced photography (just a little beyond point and shoot cameras) and absolutely nothing about lighting. I've said repeatedly, "I'm not a photographer" and have even suggested he try highering some UNT photo student (who could use the cash) who would actually know something about taking good shots. Even though my boss has assured me that he's not "expecting miracles" I do think he's expecting me to save his ass from angry higher from spending a good deal of the company money on all this equipment. Photoshop I can do (and is what I'm going to have to do because I don't know how to make the picture look that great to begin with) and I'm just afraid this damn project is going to take a huge amount of time and I'll either end up having all this other crap backed up for me to do OR run out of time to get all of this photo crap AND the graphics they go into done.
Anyways, wish me luck. Maybe now I'll stop procrastinating on getting the rest of my work done for tomorrow.

Love Bird
So...I've been trying to figure why Boscoe has been so irratible recently. I mean he's always kind of squawky, but he's been real aggressive towards my hands whenever he's been out of his cage lately (especially right now). Though now I think I may have my answer, since he just birdy humped my hand right now (which just looks like very intensive tail wagging, he's a bird so you don't see anything). So, since he kind of considers me as his "mate" I think he's been trying to show off and be more dominant lately because he's going through birdy puberity and is being an annoying adolescent.
I guess I could get Boscoe a girlfriend at some point, but I don't want little cockatiel babies to deal with (can't spay or neuter a bird). Or I could just deal with the birdy humping on my hand. Oh well.
Well, I've got publication homework to do and other classwork as well. Just felt like sharing that Boscoe's a randy little bird.

This is NOT What I'm Going to School For.
I think I need therapy, I need to vent and all sorts of crap off my chests without putting unnecessary baggage onto friends and the like. I've really tired of school, just thinking about it makes me tired. Except right now is Spring Break, and now that I'm not so busy I think about the stuff I still have to do...and it depresses me a little.
I really hate it when my boss says (like he did yesterday), "See this is what you're going to school for, you'll be ahead of the game when you graduate having worked here." I then think to myself, I hope to all that is holy that this isn't what I'm going to school for. There is hardly any thinking required at my job, I'm just putting crap together in programs that not a whole lot of people know how to use. I'm not really designing, sure I actually take the time to align stuff and TRY to make stuff look pretty good, but I'm just following some formula they have set up for me to create stuff. All I'm doing is computer work, not designing, which is kind of nice sometimes, but just these couple of days where I've actually gone through 8 hours of this, it's mind numbing! I then get worried that I will get stuck in a job like this because maybe I'm not good enough to get work with a design firm or perhaps even do design freelance (that's what I'd REALLY like to do).
Perhaps what's more irritating is the fact that someone always has to try and make something "better" or one person doesn't like that image, so now we have to find a new one. I think the phrase "too many chiefs, not enough Indians" applies here. Almost makes me want to go back to Dominos, and if it weren't for the $11/hour I probably would go back to delivering pizzas.
Now that I've bitched about that, I am excited that I'm actually learning how to use Adobe GoLive, so maybe in the near future I can have a semi-cool website to share with ya'll. Hopefully I'll learn enough to actually do a good job on the website I'm supposed to do for my Anthropology class as well. Motivation is the key I suppose.
I think I've drug myself out of my mopiness now. Blogs are nice place to vent. I better get me some dinner now, toodles.

Can You Read the Sign?
Only one more day until Spring Break! Sleep will be nice, and for once the Comm Design professors have decided to not give us a crap load to do, but now I have to catch up on all my NON design stuff. Should be fun. I wish I had the time to go home and visit my parents, but since I don't have a school job, I don't get a complete break. Though I am going to compress my week (20 hours) into three days so that I can have more FULL days off.
Hopefully, I don't completely pass out once I'm done for the day tomorrow, though I am pretty close to passing out at this moment. I was trying to do a bit more studying for my Art History test and that just isn't happening. Though I think I'm prepared fairly well as is.
I also just bought the game "God of War," which is rather gory I must say, but very fun to play. As long as you don't get too hung up on all the blood-spattering (not a game for kids). I played a demo of it a while back, but haven't bought because it's been like 50 bucks until this week or something and it dropped down to 20, which is quite alright with me.
Now I'm just starting to babble (or have been from the beginning?), but my brain is starting early on this whole "vacation" thing and doesn't seem to want to stay focused for one final test tomorrow (actually my only test this week).
My next project is to make an annual report for an oil refining company based in (where of all places!) EL PASO! YAY! I should go home and tell my boss I need to do research for school and go be fed by my momma and get picked on by my dad and I in turn will torture my pets that I've had to leave behind. I use "torture" in the nicest possible way, it's not like I hurt them, I just...pester them so that they aren't so bored and neither am I.
Boscoe's quite awake, but he's chirping at least and not squawking. I like his chirps as long as they aren't TOO loud. Inside voices are nice. I wish bf would call me back, I want to babble in person, I'm tired of typing. Actually, I'm just tired period. I guess that's a sign that I should be sleeping, for once I'll actually read the signs. Night.

Personal Bubble
I'm tired. Now that that's out of the way...I don't know what else to say. Birdy's still quite insane, but he's a bird, what are you going to do? He does like the coconut shell I put in his cage, chewtastic fun for Boscoe.
I'm starting to get a little annoyed by a habit that my boss has of sort of invading my "personal bubble". Not in an inappropriate way by any means, but I like to keep my distance from most people and I'm very protective of that little bubble that is MY PERSONAL SPACE. He's always just likes to point at stuff on my computer screen or a printout that I'm holding, and is a little erratic about it and I'm always trying to lean away and get myself out of his path. Fortunately I'm mostly just left to work on my own, so it's not like a constant irritant, otherwise I probably would have snapped at him or something by now. Plus, he smokes so he smells like cigarettes all the time, which only adds to the occasional "personal space" problem.
I think part of it is just that he wants stuff out his hands and tries to rush explanations and feel the need to be more "pointy" or something so that he can get his point across. A lot of times I end up being confused and have to ask specific questions so I can actually know what he wants something to look like so I don't have to redo it 5 million times. There's always changes too, or he misinterprets someone else's orders or miscommunicates them to me which just accounts for projects taking longer than necessary. I'm glad I get paid by the hour and not by the number of "jobs" I complete, otherwise I would be much more frustrated by that fact.
...I've kind of lost my train of thought now and don't feel a too strong desire to complain anymore. Plus, I'm tired. I'm going to bed.

Burns In My Blood
I think it's always good to have massive files that take much time to save in general and up to 20 minutes to burn to CD. My computer probably has a semi-slow burn rate, but 20 minutes to burn a CD means you got a lot of stuff going on that thing. Maybe RW CDs are little bit more finicky as well, I don't really know, and I don't really care that much. As long as it saves without corrupting any files all will be well.
So, my Pink Floyd stuff (the files which I am burning for backup incase my computer decides to fizzle out (I've had a few issues with it lately)) is turning out well, I'm actually on track and turning out work that I actually like AND that other people like as well. It's a nice feeling. Now I just need to iron details, which can be very time consuming, but it's nice to actually see something looking fairly finished and I still have a week to polish up stuff before it's due. Makes me feel good, let's me know all my hours spent working on this thing have actually been productive ones and not just thrown out ideas and executions of said ideas.
I also donated blood today and now my arm kind of hurts like a mother. Well, it's better now, but still very tender. I don't remember it hurting quite as much last time. It also doesn't help that they liked my right arm more this time (I'm right-handed) so I think it's also more annoying because I'm having to do some things (like lifting sort of heavy stuff) with my left hand that I would normally do right handed, or receive another painful reminder that I got poked in the arm with a large needle earlier today. I've felt fine otherwise, no dizzyness or nauseousness, so I guess all that's well and good. Plus, the feeling that I could be helping someone out by donating blood is always nice.
Ooh, only 2 minutes left in the CD buring process. I better get to bed soon, Boscoe's getting squawky (like he gets every night). I'm really trying hard to NOT pay attention to him when he does that, cause that reinforces that bad behavior, but it's not chaning things very quickly.
Oh joy of joys, my CD's done burning! Now I shall feast and sleep.
