Politicians Suck

We are all going to be living in hovels next week. I just know it. Even us people who didn't take out ridiculous loans (or promise ridiculous loans) are going to end up with stuff repossessed and no jobs and then we'll be scraping away for food. Good thing Congress is blaming the other party for screwing things up. We'll solve a lot of problems that way. We need more muck-raking and finger-pointing, it's the American Way.

Also, global warming (now known as "climate change") somehow we'll figure that out in a day too. It's mother nature people! We can learn to cope and figure out ways to adjust to it, but we ain't changing the weather. We aren't little demi-gods running around able to change things on a whim.

Oh yeah, and this is all George Bush's fault.

"L" is for "Le Awesome"

A lot of birds at the duck pond today, you know, other than the usual ducks.

I don't always get to see egrets and herons over there, and they usually don't let me get too close. I guess they all decided to pose for my bf's new 200 f/2.8 "L" lens. This would have been a great photo day with any lens, but it was nice to test this one out on some cool subjects. I will say this lens focuses fast and is very sharp, it's quite nice all the way around.






For some reason I just really like these photos in black and white, though the last one looks exceptionally good in color too. At least I like to think so.

Fly Away

I took this photo yesterday at the duck pond, it's heavily cropped, but I still like it a lot. Those egrets fly away from me before I even realize they're there.

Sigma 10-20

I borrowed my bf's Sigma 10-20. It's an interesting perspective and really makes you think differently on how to take a well composed picture because so much STAYS in the shot and you can't zoom to crop things out. That being said, the color and contrast of this lens is quite impressive.

Oklahoma City National Memorial

On April 19, 1995, 168 people, 19 of which were children, were killed in the Oklahoma City Bombing. This memorial was opened on April 19, 2000. If you ever get a chance, visit this lovely memorial dedicated to those that died and were affected on that tragic day.

Remembering 9/11

I just finished watching a sobering documentary on 9/11. Even though I don't particularly want to recall that day, I feel that it's important that we be reminded of it. Those that suffered and lost their lives and loved ones have my thoughts with them. As painful as it was and still is, it's important to learn from that day and cherish what we have.

Not often do we get the whole family together for a picture, but my brother-in-law was able to catch this lovely scene...

This is probably the most accurate family portrait so far. Not just how we look but how we act is portrayed. I think my cute little nephew might end up being a terror.

Summer Vacation

Yay, I'm back! I just got done with a week and half of vacation to Maine for one wedding and then to Austin for another. While it was a lot of fun, I'm very glad to be back. Unfortunately, I have to go work tomorrow, but oh well. I'm currently trying to make some web photo galleries so that friends and family can look at the crap load of pictures I took while away, (I took over 2,000 photos, and will post around 500 of the better ones!).

I've got a couple galleries up already and you can view them by day and by wedding events. I'm eventually going to create a splash page so that it's easier to navigate, but these things take time.

Day 1
First official day of vacation, my parents and I drove from Manchester through Kennebunkport, the trolley museum (I forget which town that was in) and finally to Poland, Maine to the cute bed & breakfast my cousin Dylan was to get married at the next day.

Day 2
Random things done before and after the wedding, kayaking, pig roast, some old car.

Day 3
More of the bed & breakfast (even some infrared shots), the capital in Augusta, Fort Knox (not like the one in Kentucky), and the city of Belfast.

Day 4
Belfast Harbor, Acadia National Park (Cadillac Mountain, Sandy Beach), and outside of our hotel in Bar Harbor.

Day 5
More of Acadia National Park (Thunder Hole, the Bubbles Mountains), more of outside of our hotel, and the lobster and I most definitely did not enjoy.

Day 6
Some infrared shots outside the hotel, some little zoo where we got to see moose and other critters, Camden harbor and then I was too tired for any more pictures and we finished driving to Manchester to fly out the next day.

Kurt & Melissa's (not me) Wedding
After a two day break (sort of) my sister and I drove down to Austin for yet another wedding of another cousin, Kurt. So more wedding pictures, and some of the brunch to send off the happy couple earlier today.
